On Friday February 21st, the girls varsity basketball team took on the Desoto Wildcats. The girls came out victorious with a final score of 52-41. This was a big win for the Lady Lions, making them UKC Champions. Not only was this the last regular season game for the Lions, but it was also Senior Night for the girls as well. “It was an amazing feeling to win the UKC Championship, especially since it is my senior year. I cannot even explain the energy that I felt during the Senior Night presentation. It was honestly absolutely insane. The feeling of having all of the LHS students and their families supporting us, as a team, made it an even better experience,” said Senior Trinity Richardson.

There are six seniors on the girls varsity team and they were all given gift bags  from their younger teammates that had items ranging from flowers to decorative jars with encouraging notes in them. “Winning the UKC Championship was amazing because it was that first step towards going to state, which happened to be the end goal for the season. When the seniors walked across the court, I knew I was going to miss them, but I knew that our season was nowhere close to being over yet,’ said Sophomore Caitlin Bishop. The girls will advance to the first round of Substate on Thursday March 5th at home, against the Bonner Springs Braves, at 7pm in the Main Gym.
