Varsity Volleyball Prepare for Substate Tournament

Riley Phillips, Editor-in-Chief

Since the start of summer, the girls varsity volleyball team has been hard at work in the weight room and in the gym. They have been putting their bodies under the constant stress of league games, long practices, early mornings, and all day long tournaments. After the many bruises, floor burns, tears, wins, and even some hard losses, what the girls have been working towards is finally here.

The SubState Tournament will take place on Saturday October 26th at home as an all day event. “We have been preparing all season for this tournament by working hard in practice and getting our minds right. We must have a competitive winners mindset in order to come out of this tournament as SubState Champions,” said Senior Samantha Moburg.

The Lions will take on Desoto first and will then have to wait for the Shawnee Heights and Sumner Academy game to be completed to see who will play in the championship match. “I think we will come ready to play. They have a losing record, so if we play at our level we will be unstoppable. It will be a good game to practice different shots and different hitting angles,” said Senior Karli Schmidt. This tournament will take more than just physical skill, but mental strength as well. “Mentally we need to be ready to put up a good fight so we can be prepared for the tougher competition at state and limit errors on the court,” Schmidt stated.

The SubState tournament will show what the Lady Lions are made of and how hard they have been working everyday of the season. Come support their love for the game and all of their hard work this upcoming weekend at Home.
