The Lansing Theatre Department received a record-setting seven Blue Star nominations for their production James and The Giant Peach. The Blue Star Award is given out by KC Starlight Theatre, one of the most prestigious theaters in Kansas. The nominees were:

  • Outstanding Costume Design and Construction, Tier 1
  • Outstanding Hair and Makeup Design
  • Rising Star Scholarship – Paige Padgett
  • Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role – Megan Darley as Ladybug
  • Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role – Paige Padgett as Spider
  • Outstanding Actor in a Featured Role – Will Snodgrass as Aunt Spiker
  • Outstanding Actress in a Featured Role – Heide Barber as Aunt Sponge

According to theatre teacher Casey McCord, this is the most nominations Lansing has ever received. The students will attend the Blue Star awards ceremony on May 23 at Starlight Theatre.  “It is so stressful because we have all worked so hard and just want to see what is on the banner. I know no matter what I will be happy because I had the privilege to work with some truly amazing students and obviously that showed to the adjudicators,” said Senior Heide Barber.
