School shootings — a topic that if often times turned away from or avoided all together. However, the Lansing Thespian Board believed that this was a topic that needed to be addressed, and on February 14 the Theatre Department will be performing “Declaration”.
“This play is being held in memory of the Parkland Shooting,” said Theatre Director Casey McCord. “You do not witness any form of shooting or even hear shooting at all, it is more of seeing the actions leading up to the shooting and the students reflecting on their lives after the fact,” he said.
The play will start off as a normal school day then the rest of the plot will unfold from there. There will be around 30 different cast members and they all play a crucial role in ensuring that the play goes over smoothly. “We want to raise awareness about this topic more than anything,” said McCord.
“Declaration” will be held this Thursday, February 14 at 7 p.m. in the Lansing High School Auditorium. Admission is $5 at the door. The cast has been working hard to prepare for this play, and is ready to spread awareness about a very sensitive topic.
