The Lion’s boys swimming team capped off a winning season in the pool with their strong showing at the state swim meet Feb. 17 and 18 in Topeka where they set a new school record.

“We had a great season,” junior Trey Myers said. “We won a couple of meets and finished out strong.”

The boys capped off a successful season with record breaking times and finishes at the state swim meet.

“We finished out the way we wanted to,” senior Tanner Williams said. “It was also an ending to my last year swimming that I wanted.”

The relay team of Williams, Brendan Jamerson, Holden Giefer and Dylan Hawley became the first Lansing relay team to medal at state in the 200 Free Relay; they also broke a school record in the 400 Free relay.

“I’m proud of the other guys on our relay team,” Giefer said. “It was one of the best moments of my senior year.”

On top of their state performance, the Lions also were the Kaw Valley League Champions, beating Turner, Piper, Bonner and Basehor in the KVL meet at home.

“KVL champs was the highlight of my year,” Myers said. “It topped off an already great year.”

The Lions also won a meet at home as well as finished top three in meets at Turner, Leavenworth, and Topeka.

“We had a solid team this year,” Williams said.

The Lions will be looking for more success next year.

“The team next year will have a lot of talent,” Myers said. “We will have a lot of state returners and experienced guys.”
